Thieves decamp with cellphones worth over Rs 20 lakh cash in Rudrapur

This is the second such case reported this year where thieves decamped with mobiles worth lakhs of rupees.Sachin Arora, shop owner, said, “I was informed by someone that at around 2:15 am on Friday, the shutters of my shop were damaged. That is when I reached the spot and also called the police.”Arora said that over two hundred mobile phones worth over Rs 20 lakh were stolen from his shop. He is yet to ascertain the amount of cash lost in the theft.SP city, Devendra Peencha, said, “A case has been registered against the unidentified thieves on the complaint of Arora and further investigations are on. CCTVs are being examined and efforts to trace the accused captured in the footages are also on.”According to Peencha, preliminary investigation revealed that there could be a particular gang involved in the theft. "We have procured all the available CCTV footages in the area and the forensic team has been asked to collect evidences. The IMEI number of all stolen mobile phones will be sent to the technical wing of the department so that the cops get to know if any stolen phone is being used,” he said.Meanwhile, Sanjay Juneja, president of the Rudrapur Traders' union, alleged that due to the negligence of the police department, such incidents are happening repeatedly."Earlier on July 18, mobiles worth Rs 12 lakh were stolen from HP enterprises located in the same area.
