Campaigning ends, election commission gears up for tomorrow’s civic body polls

“While 474 polling centres have been identified under sensitive category, 368 centres are under hyper sensitive category. Dehradun has 106 polling centres marked as sensitive and 68 as hyper sensitive, while 274 polling booths are under sensitive category and 213 booths under hyper sensitive category.Udham Singh Nagar has 93 polling centres as sensitive and 89 as hyper sensitive. Dehradun: The election commission gave final touches to its preparation for Sunday’s urban civic body elections with polling parties being dispatched to allotted centres as electioneering drew to a close on Friday evening.The State Election Commission (SEC) will also launch a mobile application which can be downloaded from its official website from Saturday. The application will help provide updates on candidates participating in the polls.The polling at 2,664 booths of 1,257 centres in 13 districts will start at 8 am on Sunday and will end at 5 in the evening. A total of 23.53 lakh voters are expected to exercise their franchise to elect members of the 84 urban local bodies.State election commissioner Chandra Shekhar Bhatt told TOI that a total of 110 zonal magistrates, 276 sector magistrates and 35 observers have been appointed by the election commission. Therefore, the total staff deployed for poll duty is roughly 12,000 across the state.”Speaking about the mobile application, the commissioner said, “One has to fill constituency and district name in the app and then select the candidate. Voters can also see the voting results using this application from Sunday morning.”
