Cong, BJP, independents show mixed performances in Kumaon

While 14 seats were bagged by BJP, 13 were won by Congress and the remaining three went to independents. In the 20 wards, while 11 were won by independent candidates, eight seats were secured by the BJP and Uttarakhand Kranti Dal won in one ward. While the Congress won the chairman post of Almora nagar palika, the BJP secured the Dwarahat and Bhikiasain nagar panchayat chairmans’ seats and an independent candidate won in Chiliyanaula Nagar panchayat.Wiping out the Congress entirely, the BJP won four seats in the total five municipalities of Pithoragarh district. In the Nainital nagar palika, of the 15 wards, 13 were secured by independent candidates and BJP won the other two.The ruling BJP, however, had to face defeat in both the urban local body seats — Bageshwar nagar palika and Kapkot nagar panchayat — in Bageshwar district. While independent candidate Suresh Khetwal won the Bageshwar nagar palika chairman post by 367 votes, Congress’ Govind Singh secured the Kapkot nagar panchayat seat with a margin of 347 votes.The results in the Almora district were a mixed performance by the Congress, BJP and independent candidates.

Nainital/Bageshwar/Almora /Pithoragarh/Rudrapur: As counting started on Tuesday, trends and results for the various wards and municipal boards were a mixed bag for the political parties.Of the 60 wards in the Haldwani-Kathgodam Municipal Corporation, results were declared in only 20 wards till the time of filing the report. In the 20 wards, while 11 were won by independent candidates, eight seats were secured by the BJP and Uttarakhand Kranti Dal won in one ward. While 14 seats were bagged by BJP, 13 were won by Congress and the remaining three went to independents.
