We have purchased 139 ambulances, which will be soon deployed to all the blocks in state. This entire project requires a lot of funds.

PITHORAGARH: Chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat on Saturday announced that air ambulance service will be begin from January 26 next year.According to a press note released by Pithoragarh administration, the CM made these remarks during an annual general meeting that was held in Dharchula town.“The government is strengthening health services in remote areas. We have purchased 139 ambulances, which will be soon deployed to all the blocks in state. Moreover, from January 26 next year we will launch air ambulance services in the state,” said the CM, while announcing 13 projects worth Rs 10 crore for Dharchula.The chief minister, however, did not go into details as to how much budget has been allocated or how many copters have been purchased.When TOI spoke to TC Pant, the director general of Uttarakhand health and family welfare department, he said the scheme could not be launched at the date announced by the chief minister as the modalities of the scheme have not been chalked out.“There is no such plan of starting the facility from January 26 till now. This entire project requires a lot of funds. We still have not selected the firm which will run the chopper service; no air doctors have been appointed. Only after we sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the service provider we will be able to begin the air ambulance facility.”
