Roorkee: District police on Sunday constituted a special investigation team (SIT) to probe a sexual harassment case filed by a Dalit research scholar from Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT-R) who alleged that three senior faculty members from the institute misbehaved with and made casteist slurs against her.According to sources, the 27-year-old girl from Gujarat, presently associated with Centre of Nanotechnology, had reported to the police on Friday that she was sexually harassed by her faculty members, who were her PhD guides. She added that they also used derogatory castiest remarks against her.“We have constituted a three-member SIT, which will be headed by a circle officer (CO). We have asked them to submit their report within three days. Further action will be taken once we go through the report," said Ridhim Aggarwal, SSP of Haridwar.Incidentally, the girl had according to sources earlier made similar complaints to the institute as well.“Her earlier complaints were resolved at the institute level itself, which was in her favour. We are ready to cooperate with the SIT. Once they finish the probe, we will take stern action against those who are found guilty,” said AK Chaturvedi, director at IIT-R.Incidentally, two other women, including an American citizen, have also alleged sexual harassment by the senior faculty members at IIT-R, which is also being probed by SIT.“In the case of the foreigner woman, we have received an email from her side over allegations of her sexual harassment by some faculty members. We have emailed a questionnaire to seek her response. And in the other case, a student has messaged complaining about harassment by a faculty member. We are examining both cases separately,” SSP Aggarwal said.
