Offering ‘Nazrana’ to new SP lands two in jail

RUDRAPUR: Two persons were arrested by the Bageshwar police for offering bribe to the newly appointed Superintendent of Police (SP) of Bageshwar district at his camp office on Thursday evening. The duo was apparently trying to give the bribe in order to run their mining business smoothly. They have been identified as Indra Kumar and Bhagwan Singh, legal adviser and manager to a firm, Katiyar mines, in Bageshwar.Talking to TOI, the 2014 batch IPS officer SP Lokeshwar Singh said that Indra Kumar had approached him at his office on Wednesday morning and sought time at his camp office to see him with a mining delegation. After they were permitted by SP Singh, the two of them reached the camp office in the evening. "They greeted me with a diary, a box of sweets and an envelope which i asked about. I was taken aback when they said this is 'Nazrana' (token money) for you. I immediately asked my reader to call the city police. Both of them were detained after legal proceedings were done", told SP Singh."I have never encountered such flabbergasting situation in my career of two and a half years. I do not know what kind of impression i had given them that they were so straight forward and daring. Inspector of the city police station was summoned right away and the two accused were nabbed with the evidence", the apex officer of the district added.The envelope contained Rs 20,000 cash. The duo were booked under offences under the Section 8 and 9 of Prevention of Corruption Act and were produced in the court on Thursday.
