Dehradun: In an address cut short by sore throat and cough, governor Baby Rani Maurya on Monday spoke of the steps taken by the BJP government to boost investments, income of farmers and tourism in the state. Maurya could read out only 10 pages of her 43-page speech since she was troubled by a persistent cough. At lawmakers’ request, she concluded her speech early by reading the 43rd page after she had read the 10th.In her address, Maurya said that the state government has launched Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Kisan Kalyan Yojana under which short-term and medium-term loans worth Rs 325 crore have been given to 65,000 farmers in the state. She said 413 km of new roads have been built, 604 km reconstructed and 27 bridges erected to connect 26 villages with approach roads in the state during the current financial year.MoUs worth Rs 601 crore have been signed so far in different sectors of investment, the governor added. “Single window system has made the investment process simpler and easier in the state. Through this facility, online proposal for 2,554 investment projects have been received. These proposals which aim to provide employment to 48,000 people are worth Rs 9,687 crore,” she added.The governor said that an online portal now keeps a record of departmental works to ensure transparency. Maurya said that efforts have been made to improve disaster management. “An early warning earthquake system has been developed in association with IIT Roorkee. A total of 84 satellite phones have been purchased and rain gauges and snow gauges are being established at 176 locations,” she said, adding that a disaster risk database has also been prepared.
