DEHRADUN: A purported sting video of CM Trivendra Singh Rawat’s brother Virendra Singh Rawat, released by “Samachar Plus” CEO Umesh Kumar in January this year, sent the House into a pandemonium on Friday. The 28-minute long sting video allegedly shows the CM’s brother dictating a government official to get his work done dropping the name of the CM and a senior state officer.Demanding a CBI probe into the matter, Congress MLAs entered the well of the House before the question hour and demanded a discussion on the issue. Only after Speaker Prem Chand Agarwal granted the permission for the same, they returned to their seats.Reminding the incumbent government of the CBI probe that it ordered against former CM Harish Rawat after he was shown in a sting video allegedly interacting with a news channel CEO to save his government in 2016, Congress MLAs said that there cannot be two different set of rules. Pritam Singh, Congress state chief and Chakrata MLA, stated that a probe will bring out the facts and people can judge the issue for themselves. “If a probe was conducted against the former chief minister, then why should the present CM be allowed to dodge the law,” he asked.Echoing Singh, Harish Dhami, Congress MLA from Dharchula, said, “Congress has been demanding the appointment of Lokayukta but the present government isn’t giving ears to our demand making it clear that the BJP government is involved in corruption.”Coming to the rescue of the government, finance minister Prakash Pant said that the entire episode is being blown up with the intention of creating a sensation and malign the government’s image. “There is not a single stain on the character and functioning of CM Trivendra Singh Rawat. This is a deliberate attempt to tarnish his image and we will not allow this. The Opposition party needs to put its facts together before making such allegations. There is a need to look into the background of the man who is said to be behind the alleged sting video. It has no authenticity or meaning,” said Pant.Earlier this year, Umesh Kumar who was taken into custody by the state government for conspiring to bring down the BJP government, made a series of allegations against CM Trivendra Singh Rawat and his relatives at a press conference in New Delhi. He had released a video which purportedly shows CM’s brother and other relatives involved in a detailed conservation related to the mining sector in the state and the introduction of robotics education in schools. Presently, he is out on bail.Kumar had further alleged that the CM had assured the post of Gau Seva Ayog of Jharkhand to Amritesh Singh Chauhan, party’s state vice president of Kisan Morcha, in exchange of Rs 25 lakh — which were allegedly deposited in 13 different bank accounts. The state government has brushed aside the allegations dubbing them “frivolous”.
