Man gets EC notice as son’s wedding card tells guests ‘don’t bring gifts, just vote for Modi’

Dehradun: A man from Bageshwar was served a notice by the Election Commission after he sent guests invite to his son’s wedding, asking them not to bring gifts but to attend the ceremony on April 22 after voting for Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. “I’m a simple man and I don’t belong to any party. If need be, I will apologise before the commission,” he said. Joshi runs a cow shelter and his son is scheduled to be married on April 22.According to Bageshwar DM and chief electoral officer, Ranjana Rajguru, the EC has asked Joshi for clarification within 24 hours.

Jagdish Joshi, a resident of Joshikhola village in Garud block, also printed BJP’s symbol, the lotus, on the wedding card . The EC found the card to be in violation of the model code of conduct on Saturday and demanded a clarification from the man within 24 hours.The message on the wedding card read: “Don’t bring gifts but please vote for Modi ji in the interest of the nation on April 11 before giving your blessings to the bride and the groom.” The elections to five Lok Sabha constituencies in the state will be held on April 11. Joshi runs a cow shelter and his son is scheduled to be married on April 22.According to Bageshwar DM and chief electoral officer, Ranjana Rajguru, the EC has asked Joshi for clarification within 24 hours. Officials said that if the EC is not satisfied with Joshi’s response, action can be taken against him under the Representation of the People Act, 1951 as well the Indian Penal Code (IPC).Joshi, however, said that he had no idea that he was violating the model code of conduct. “I’m a simple man and I don’t belong to any party. If need be, I will apologise before the commission,” he said.
