State’s first ‘Unity mall’ to come up in Haridwar

HARIDWAR: Uttarakhands first Unity Mall will be built in Haridwar, where products from all states and UTs will be available. Apart from shops, showrooms and food courts, an open-space auditorium will also be built in the mall. The project costs Rs 164 crore, and the Centre will give Rs 126 crore for it, while Rs 28 crore will be spent by the state government. Haridwar Roorkee Development Authority (HRDA) holds the responsibility to construct the mall and land for it has been identified on Haridwar-Delhi highway near Jawalpur. Vice chairman, HRDA Anshul Singh told TOI, The land of Haridwar Municipal Corporation has been identified for the project and the design of the project has been prepared. Rs 68 crore has been released by the central government to the state for the project. The project will be completed within two years. Earlier, Dehradun was selected for the Unity Mall but later, the government decided to move the project to Udham Singh Nagar. The fire broke out on the fourth floor of the six-storey building, with over 60 people inside at the time. The Chippa welfare organisations rescue service has confirmed the death toll and number of injured persons. The fire was caused by a generator short circuit and spread to two floors of the building.
