Nagar Nigam: 100% house tax exemption to statehood agitators

Dehradun: With the completion of the tenure of Dehradun Nagar Nigam, many populist decisions were passed in the last meeting of the board convened in the city on Thursday. The board unanimously passed decisions to grant 100% house tax exemption to statehood agitators and waive off around 600 challans issued to private individuals and business establishments during the anti-dengue campaign when the outbreak was at its peak.Outgoing Mayor Sunil Uniyal Gama said, By issuing challans, our intention was not to just collect the fine amount, but we wanted to sensitise the citizens about the highly contagious water-borne disease that was causing several deaths.Uttarakhand Rajya Andolan Manch had been demanding a house tax waiver for the statehood agitators for a long time. After this decision, at least 1,200 families will get the benefit of exemption in house tax. The forum hopes that chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami will now take a positive decision on the proposal passed in their favour.During the final board meeting, Mayor Gama announced the boards approval for scrutinising all tenders, including hoarding advertisements and tractor-trolley operations. The campaign focused on educating citizens about traffic guidelines and ensuring compliance. As part of the initiative, 680 vehicles were impounded for various violations, including those related to air pollution. The e-challans resulted in fines worth Rs 59.29 lakh, with Rs 2.70 lakh already collected. In addition, 4 out of 15 identified black spots have been rectified, with work ongoing on the remaining 11 spots.
