Dehradun: The only female cancer ward at a public facility in Dehradun at the Government Doon Medical College and Hospital will soon be converted into a general ward, sparking objections from the hospitals oncology department.A source said the emphasis on TB Free India campaign has resulted in this change resulting in concerns among medical staff. The fight against TB is righteous but it shouldnt happen at the cost of other diseases.There is only one functional cancer ward for female patients in Dehradun and if its taken away, the department will be forced to carve out space from the male ward reducing that as well, a source told TOI.Dr Daulat Singh, head of oncology department said, Female patients often require separate spaces for privacy which is why a separate ward is required.
