PIL says rlys, forest land sold to pvt entities, HC seeks govt reply

DEHRADUN: The Uttarakhand high courts division bench comprising acting Chief Justice Manoj Tiwari and Justice Vivek Bharti Sharma, on Monday ordered the state government, the forest department, and the railways, to reply to allegations of government land being sold to private entities. The court was hearing a PIL filed by Hitesh Pandey claiming that a plot of railway land in Gafoor locality and forest and revenue land in Gaulapar were sold to non-domiciles of Uttarakhand, who arrived in the state seeking employment a few years ago.Pandey said, "The land mafia threatened me with dire consequences after I filed a complaint with the district administration and the CM complaint portal."Pandey asked the court to appoint a high-level committee for a thorough investigation and inspect all land records. The court summoned the authorities to submit their affidavits and fixed the next hearing for December 22.During the proceedings, Pandey said his life was in danger for exposing the land mafias and sought adequate protection. In response, the court directed the police station in charge to ensure the petitioners safety.
