Dehradun: High court on Wednesday sought clarification from Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) over the installation of commercial connection metres in bar association chamber, auditorium, and library at the HC premises.Petitioner advocate Chandra Shekhar Joshi argued that no commercial work was done in the lawyers chambers, auditorium, and library despite the discom having installed commercial metres there. Joshi claimed that lawyers work does not come under commercial activity, hence, domestic connections should be issued in these areas. He further argued that in a similar case, Allahabad HC directed discoms in UP to provide domestic connections to lawyers chambers. Joshi added that the electricity bill of lawyers chambers in Punjab and Haryana HC is paid by the high court, and the state government makes a provision for it in the budget. He also demanded an order from the high court that the government pay the electricity bills of the said places.
