Industry titans announce projects in tourism, energy, infrastructure

DEHRADUN: Industry leaders participating in the Uttarakhand Global Investors Summit on Friday announced their investment intentions in the Himalayan state.Pranav Adani, director of Adani Group and managing director (Agro, Oil & Gas), said that "Uttarakhand has become one of the most attractive destinations for private sector investment."Elaborating his plans, Adani said that Ambuja cement plant with a cost of Rs 1,400 crore will be established in Rishikesh that will create 6,000 jobs.Adani has also planned to develop an aerocity and knowledge park in Pant Nagar.Sajjan Jindal, chairman and managing director of JSW, expanded on the companys plan to bring in investment of roughly Rs 15,000 crore in Uttarakhand and also spoke about the Clean Kedarnath Project initiated in November.Managing director of ITC, Sanjiv Puri, said that they are going to bring four more properties in the hospitality sector in Uttarakhand and will start a pulp manufacturing unit in Haridwar. ITC group has 12 hotels in Uttarakhand. Founder of Patanjali and yoga guru Ramdev highlighted the PM Modis goal of achieving a 5 trillion dollar economy and said the contributions of Patanjali in bringing in investments and creating job opportunities. He assured the PM Modi of future investments of more than Rs 10,000 crore and over 10,000 jobs.Emaar India CEO Kalyan Chakrabarti and TVS Supply Chain Solutions chairman R Dinesh also shared their investment plans.The two-day summit aims to promote the hill state as a major investment destination. Preparations for the summit had been going on for months in advance. It is being attended by investors and delegates from across the country and abroad.According to the state government, the target of the summit was to sign MoUs worth Rs 2.5 lakh crore but it has already exceeded that limit to reach around Rs 3 lakh crore in the run-up to the event, which saw various roadshows being held by Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami in Indias metro cities as well as London, Birmingham in the UK, Dubai and Abu Dhabi (the UAE).
