Start ‘Wed in India’ campaign on lines of ‘Make in India’: PM

Dehradun: At the inauguration of the Uttarakhand Global Investors Summit on Friday, PM Modi urged the youth to start a campaign -- Wed in India -- along the lines of Make in India. I want to ask the millionaires, billionaires and wealthy people... why do they start their married life by hosting wedding ceremonies abroad? Why dont they plan a destination wedding in India?The PM added, Whether you invest here or not, but decide to organise at least one destination wedding for your family in Uttarakhand in the next five years. He went on to say that unprecedented enthusiasm among domestic and international tourists to explore India is being witnessed currently.Highlighting the possibilities inherent in the tourism sector, Modi said that theme-based tourism circuits across the country are being developed.Our endeavour is to introduce world tourists to the nature and heritage of the country. Uttarakhand is going to be a rising power in this campaign because it has immense potential ranging from nature, heritage to culture, Yoga, Ayurveda, pilgrimage and adventure sports. Converting them into opportunities should be the priority of entrepreneurs, he added.Criticising the previous government for not doing any development in the villages on the international borders, the PM said, Their approach was to keep the border villages away from easy access. But the double-engine government has changed this approach. Now were developing such villages considering them not as the last but the first villages of the country. The PM praised the Uttarakhand government for tagging products of the state under the brand name House of Himalayas. He said, This is a unique effort to establish the products of Uttarakhand abroad. This helps in strengthening our idea of Vocal for Local and Local for Global. He added that it will also help fulfil his commitment of making two crore rural women lakhpati didis in the time to come.Encouraging small investors and venture capitalists, he urged, You should explore such local products in the state. Identify self-help groups and explore new possibilities with them. Modi also stressed on reduction in imports. It allows leasing office space to non-exporting IT companies. Previously, companies in SEZs received I-T relief under section 80I, but incentives were withdrawn in 2019-20. Non-exporting IT companies were not allowed in SEZs.
