The Uttarakhand police will install CCTV cameras in 43 locations for interstate and border security checking ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, the additional director general of police (Crime, Law and Order) and the State police nodal officer for the election, AP Anshuman said. He informed that there are 97 vulnerable locations in border areas of the State out of which, 54 locations have CCTV cameras installed. These cameras will soon  be installed in the remaining locations. Besides this, the police will also demand 1,800 mobile sets and 900 walkie-talkies from the administration to ensure proper and continuous communication during elections, especially in remote areas with mobile phone network issues. He informed that the police have also started making postal ballot arrangements for police personnel deployed on duty during the elections. We encourage each police personnel to vote despite being on duty. Over 18,000 police personnel of the State are currently expected to be deployed on election duty. We have made postal ballots for about 14,000 personnel and the remaining will be completed soon, he added. The ADG said that each district police will soon start the seizure programme to seize illegal weapons that can become potential threats during elections and cause disruption in law and order. Besides this, the deposition process of weapons by arms license holders will also commence soon in all districts to hold a peaceful election. He informed that there are about 5,000 arms license holders across the State as per the current data most of which belong to plain districts. Besides this, the police are also conducting a drive to arrest all accused with a reward on their head. The police are continuously working to nab culprits smuggling illegal liquor. The intensity of arrests is expected to increase after the Flying Squad Team (FST) becomes active in each district after the announcement of election dates. It will carry out drone surveillance to monitor such activities that will be banned after the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct, ADG said. The police will also seek about 25,000 personnel from the central government to hold peaceful elections. We may or may not get less than the said numbers of personnel as other States must have demanded the same too. However, the State police are ready and are taking all possible measures to ensure safe and peaceful elections, he added.
