The additional director general of police (Law and Order) AP Anshuman directed all district police in-charges to maintain special vigilance in vulnerable and mixed population areas in view of Holi. He also directed them to hold meetings with peace committees in all districts, especially in vulnerable areas for peaceful Holi celebrations. Chairing a meeting with senior officials on Friday, Anshuman directed them to ensure deployment of adequate police force in Champawat and necessary areas in view of the Ma Purnagiri fair scheduled to start on March 26. Besides this, the Champawat police must ensure a proper traffic plan, efficient parking arrangements and take other required action based on incidents in past years. The police must exercise special vigilance and closely observe all arrangements as per the guidelines issued by Police headquarters and Intelligence headquarters and act accordingly. He also directed the Dehradun SSP to make similar arrangements for Jhanda Fair which is slated to start on March 30. The ADG also directed the officials to closely monitor all activities regarding safety arrangements in view of Lok Sabha elections. He asked them to comply with guidelines issued by the Election Commission of India regarding the Model Code of Conduct (MCC). He directed them to ensure regular monitoring of the Flying Squad Team (FST) and Static Surveillance Team (SST). The officials informed that the police have recovered 9,800 litres of illicit liquor worth about Rs 41.5 lakh and nine kilogrammes of illegal drugs worth about Rs 1.7 crore since MCC implementation on March 16. The submission process of licensed weapons has also started in the State. In this regard, all the district in- charges were instructed to hold a meeting with the district screening committee regarding licensed weapons in compliance with the instructions of the ECI to ensure 100 per cent action for weapons submission. So far, about 40 per cent of weapons have been submitted in the State, the ADG said. He also instructed a review of vulnerable polling stations again and preparation of a security plan accordingly.
