24 new dengue cases in state, first death in Kumaon

DEHRADUN: Uttarakhand recorded 24 new dengue cases and a death on Wednesday and with this the total count of dengue patients in the state crossed the mark of hundred.One Mohd Kamil, 45, from Uttar Pradesh succumbed to the virus on Wednesday and doctors in Haldwani tagged this as the Kumaon region’s first dengue death of the season. Another 12 patients from Uttar Pradesh have also come for dengue treatment in Dehradun. H K Joshi, Nainital CMO, said, “We are looking into the matter as the patient is said to have died in a private hospital. Chief medical officer of Dehradun Dr TC Pant said that if locals were careful even the outer areas of the two cities could have been made dengue free.While the virus has also reached hill district such as Tehri, Chamoli and Rudraprayag, the health department said that patients were carrying travellers’ dengue virus not a local virus in the hills. We are doing everything to prevent the dreaded infection from spreading.”The relatives of the deceased brought the patient to the hospital last week after he complained of continuous bouts of fever, rashes and intolerable pain.As many as 118 patients are suffering from dengue at present of which 57 are from Dehradun district followed by Haridwar (45).This year, outskirts of both Dehradun and Haridwar districts were under the grip of the virus unlike last year when cases were recorded in the main colonies.
