NGT notices to U.P. officials over open waste dumping

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) on February 15 issued show-cause notices to the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board and the Ghaziabad Nagar Nigam after petitioner alleged that municipal solid waste was being openly dumped in Vaishali. Kaushambhi resident Mansi Chahal had approached the green panel over open dumping of waste near the Income Tax Office in Vaishali, by the authorities in Ghaziabad.

A Bench headed by judicial member Jawad Rahim directed the authorities to inspect the area and file a report within one week. “We direct the respondents to conduct inspection of the area in question keeping in mind the allegation in complaint and submit a report before the tribunal within one week from now” the bench said in its order. The dumping of huge garbage, solid waste, polythene products, plastic and plastic products which are being dumped is causing a huge threat to the environment as well as to the people residing nearby” read the petition.
