Fodder Scam: Lalu Prasad sentenced to serve 14 years in jail and pay 60 lakh rupees penalty

On Monday, a CBI special court in Ranchi had pronounced Lalu guilty in the Rs 3.13 crore Dumka treasury case, the fourth of the five fodder scam cases.

The Bihar ex-CM and RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav has been sentenced to 14 years in jail by a special CBI court in the fourth case of the Ranchi Fodder scam.  Lalu has also faced a penalty of 60 lakh rupees. A special court has convicted Lalu Prasad on Monday in connection with the illegal withdrawal of 3.13 crore from Dumka Treasury.

On Monday, a CBI special court in Ranchi had pronounced Lalu guilty in the Rs 3.13 crore Dumka treasury case, the fourth of the five fodder scam cases.

Hearing in this fourth fodder scam case was wrapped up on March 5 but the judgment was repeatedly delayed as Lalu filed several pleas. In addition to Jagannath Mishra, another former chief minister of Bihar, 29 others, including former IAS officers and animal husbandry officials, were also accused in the case. 

Jagannath Mishra, another former Bihar chief minister, was pronounced not guilty in the same case (Dumka Treasury) by the court.The court had on Saturday deferred till Monday the judgment against Prasad and Mishra in the fourth fodder scam case pertaining to alleged withdrawal of Rs 3.13 crore from the Dumka treasury over two decades ago.A total of 14 accused have been convicted so far in the fodder scam case. A total of 14 accused have been convicted so far in the fodder scam case.

Earlier in the week, Lalu Prasad Yadav`s wife Rabri Devi, said," We will follow Court`s order & won`t leave Bihar & go anywhere else, however, we are also going to appeal in the Court." 

Lalu conviction in Fodder Scam so far:

1st case: Jail - 5 years & Rs 25 lakh fine.

2nd case: Jail - 3.5 years & Rs 5 lakh fine.

3rd case: Jail - 5 years & Rs 5 lakh fine.

4th case: Jail 14 years in two sections & Rs 60 lakh fine
