more-in At 12 30 p.m. on Saturday, when the CBSE Class 12 examination results were announced, Meghna Srivastava was in shock looking at her mark sheet that read; 100 in Psychology, History, Geography and Economics, with a 99 in English. “I could not believe it. I don’t think anybody takes an examination expecting to top it. In fact, I was in denial and rechecked my roll number to see if it was actually my mark sheet,” says Meghna who secured the best result in the country — 499 out of 500 marks. “There is no secret formula to score such high marks... I was blessed with good teachers who made the subjects I opted for interesting to learn. I never took any tuition. Neither did I spend long hours studying. I set myself daily goals and achieved them constantly and that paid off,” said Meghna. A student of Step by Step School, Noida, Meghna wants to pursue a course in Psychology abroad for her undergrad studies. Community service Meghna says she likes to bake muffins, watch movies, read books, go on treks and do community service in her free time. “Through visits organised by school I have helped in the community in areas like sanitation, health and education and it is something I will continue to do. An undergraduate degree in Psychology is next, but I have no set plans and would like to experience different things and see where life takes me in the future,” she says. Her father Gautam Srivastava, who teaches Strategic Management at Manav Rachana University, said his daughter had been very consistent throughout her school life and a good planner when it comes to examinations. On advice to other parents with school-going children, Mr. Srivastava says that parents should not pressure their children to score high marks. The only thing they need to do is to keep a watch on the company they keep. “A positive and encouraging circle of friends will ensure that a child stays positive and does not get into bad company,” said Mr. Srivastava. Ironically, the all-India topper says that ultimately marks do not matter. “You need to have certain interests and spend time exploring them.”
