Food poisoning in Noida school: Oil used was substandard, says report

After nearly two months, it has been found that the refined oil used in the food consumed by students at Step by Step School was of sub-standard quality. "As the oil used was substandard, we are going to file a case against the school canteen and management within the next 15 days. Following which, the food department had collected samples of the ajwain paratha and oil used and sent them to a Lucknow lab for testing. While the sample of ajwain was of good quality, the refined oil was found to be substandard. However, the school authorities later wrote to the district administration offering full cooperation in the investigation.

After nearly two months, it has been found that the refined oil used in the food consumed by students at Step by Step School was of sub-standard quality. The Food and Drug Administration of the Gautam Budh Nagar district after receiving the much-awaited reports has decided to file a case against the school canteen and management. On April 5, as many as 190 kids had fallen victim to food poisoning after having lunch in the school. Following which, the food department had collected samples of the ajwain paratha and oil used and sent them to a Lucknow lab for testing. According to the administration, they received the sample reports on Saturday morning from Lucknow. While the sample of ajwain was of good quality, the refined oil was found to be substandard. "As the oil used was substandard, we are going to file a case against the school canteen and management within the next 15 days. A penalty of Rs 5 lakh will also be imposed on the accused," said Sanjay Sharma, the designated officer of Food and Drug Administration After the food poisoning incident came to fore, the school's administration had prevented officials from inspecting the premises and held them at the gate for hours before letting them in which led the district administration lodge an FIR under Sections 328 (Causing hurt by means of poison), 341(Punishment for wrongful restraint) and 332 (Voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty) against the school management. However, the school authorities later wrote to the district administration offering full cooperation in the investigation. They also extended their apologies for the mishap.
