The protest against the construction of a waste-to-energy plant in Sector 123 here has taken a different turn on Tuesday, with the urban and the rural residents showing a lack of unity in their methods to fight against the administration. While urban residents want to protest peacefully, the rural ones are ready to get arrested to help fellow protesters to be released from jail. Following the protest on the construction site, the Noida police have arrested 35 people on Tuesday for interrupting the construction work at the landfill. According to the villagers of nearby areas, they gathered at the baratghar of Parthala village and decided to get themselves arrested in order to get the already arrested protesters released. They then marched from the baratghar to the site where the Noida Authority is constructing the landfill. "After reaching the site, some of us purposely started a protest and forced the police to arrest us. We have decided to get ourselves arrested the police do not release Sukhbir Pehalwan and the 25 other people, who were sent to jail on Monday night," said Hoshiyar Chauhan, a villager. The protesters also said that their demand is not illegitimate and the decision of constructing the waste-to-energy plant at this site should be rolled back by the Authority. They threatened to continue with the protest and won't let the administration build it at any cost. "We have deployed extra force at the site. But even after that the residents marched towards the site on Tuesday and sat there in protest. So we had to arrest them for disrupting public peace under section 151 of the IPC," said Amit Kumar Singh, SHO - Phase 3. On the other hand, the residents of high-rise societies and other sectors said that they did not want any violence in the protest and that the move by the villagers will only dampen the stir and will not lead to any conclusion and might make us lose this fight. "We did not want to fight with the Noida Authority and this District Administration like this. We understand that the need of the moment is to stay calm and fight wisely. We will fight till the end," said Abhay Pandey, a resident of Sector 121. Meanwhile, members of the Noida youth Congress met the city magistrate and handed over a petition addressed to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath against the construction of the dumping site as well as about the protest and the arrests made thereafter.
