Delhi: Police let my daughter die, says Mother

The oldest daughter of the victim’s family has been married into Happy Singh’s family for the past four months. Happy Singh wanted to marry the youngest daughter, but her family rejected the proposal since she was a minor. “They (police) watched my daughter hang herself and did not make any attempts to stop her even after my sons kept asking them to. The two families had a heated argument 10 days ago but the victim’s family never wanted to involve the police since their oldest daughter is married in their family. I want justice for my daughter, I want answers from the authorities, I want him (Happy Singh) to suffer the way he made her and all the officers who stood there and watched my daughter die, should be locked behind bars,” said victim's mother staying strong and waiting for justice.

The family of a 17-year-old minor, who committed suicide inside the Tilak Nagar Police Station on Sunday, are unhappy with the police behaviour in handling the case. “They (police) watched my daughter hang herself and did not make any attempts to stop her even after my sons kept asking them to. I want justice for my daughter, I want answers from the authorities, I want him (Happy Singh) to suffer the way he made her and all the officers who stood there and watched my daughter die, should be locked behind bars,” said victim's mother staying strong and waiting for justice. The mother of the victim also mentioned that there were constant arguments as well as bad blood between the two families. “The women in Singh’s family are very poorly behaved, one woman in the family even tore her clothes and threatened to accuse my son of rape when we wanted to file a complaint against them,” recalled the mother of the victim. The two families had a heated argument 10 days ago but the victim’s family never wanted to involve the police since their oldest daughter is married in their family. Happy Singh wanted to marry the youngest daughter, but her family rejected the proposal since she was a minor. The victim was abducted by Singh’s family after her family opposed the idea of their marriage, but when they went to inquire about her, they denied her presence there at all. An inquiry has been initiated in which the police's role and if there was any negligence on the police's part will also be examined. Police said the body has been sent for post-mortem examination.
