34-year-old woman commits suicide in North-West Delhi's Shalimar Bagh

A 34-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide at her house in North-West Delhi's Shalimar Bagh area on Friday afternoon. Police said the woman's family has alleged that the victim's husband used to harass her for dowry. The woman has been identified as Balwinder Kaur, mother of two girls, who was found hanging from a grill in the bathroom. His wife had registered a case against the victim at the Delhi Police's Crime Against Women Cell, police said. "A case under section 304B has been registered for dowry death and the husband has been arrested.

A 34-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide at her house in North-West Delhi's Shalimar Bagh area on Friday afternoon. Following her family's allegation of harassment for dowry demands, police have arrested the husband. The woman has been identified as Balwinder Kaur, mother of two girls, who was found hanging from a grill in the bathroom. Police said that when the woman's father tried to contact her, she did not respond to his calls after which he tried to reach to her husband, Jaspal Singh but he also did not take his calls. Then he came to her house at 3 pm and found her hanging in the bathroom. She was then rushed to a hospital but was declared brought dead on arrival. Her body has been sent for a post-mortem examination to ascertain the cause of death. Police said the woman's family has alleged that the victim's husband used to harass her for dowry. "A case under section 304B has been registered for dowry death and the husband has been arrested. We will take action based on the statements of her family members which they will record in front of SDM. The death is being looked into from all the possible angles. Post-mortem reports are awaited," said Aslam Khan, Deputy Commissioner of Police (northwest). In another incident, a 24-year-old man allegedly hanged himself from the ceiling of his house in Dwarka. Police have recovered a suicide note from his possession in which he alleged that after a tiff with his wife, he was ending his life. His wife had registered a case against the victim at the Delhi Police's Crime Against Women Cell, police said. According to the family of the deceased, Dharam Singh was driven to death by his wife. According to the police, the incident took place around 8 pm on Friday. Singh's wife had lodged a case against her husband following regular altercations between them. They were also undergoing counseling sessions. She had stopped living with him a few weeks ago. It was just two days back that she had returned to stay with him.
