Scolded Delhi teen flees to Nepal with youth

NEW DELHI: An 18-year-old youth allegedly abducted his neighbour’s 13-year-old daughter from Burari, took her to his native village in Bihar and then fled to Nepal. The youth panicked and before cops could catch him, he crossed the international border and hid in Nepal. The distressed girl narrated the incident to the youth, who is pursuing hotel management from a private institute. The girl gave her statement in front of a magistrate on Sunday and told police that she doesn’t want to live with parents. The girl was rescued on Saturday, but she has refused to live with her family.Confirming the incident, DCP (northwest) Aslam Khan said the youth has been arrested and the girl sent to Nari Niketan where she is undergoing counselling.

The girl was rescued on Saturday, but she has refused to live with her family.Confirming the incident, DCP (northwest) Aslam Khan said the youth has been arrested and the girl sent to Nari Niketan where she is undergoing counselling. The girl was reported missing on July 18.Police said the girl’s school teacher had allegedly found a mobile phone in her bag and informed her parents, who scolded her when she returned home. The distressed girl narrated the incident to the youth, who is pursuing hotel management from a private institute. The girl was scared that she would get scolded again. The youth convinced her to accompany him to get saved from the scolding.The duo first went to Saket where the youth collected some money and booked tickets for his native village in Forbesganj in Araria district . They boarded a bus to their destination the same evening leaving their phones behind.Meanwhile, the girl’s parents started looking for her and after failing to find her approached police for help. Subsequently, a case of kidnapping was registered. After scanning CCTV footage from the area and conducting local inquiry, the suspicion fell on the youth who had also gone missing on the same day and his phone was found switched off.Cops contacted the youth’s family in Forbesganj and they confirmed that he had reached there. A team was sent there, but they faced resistance from the locals. The youth panicked and before cops could catch him, he crossed the international border and hid in Nepal. The team waited on the Indian side of the border and made efforts to contact the duo.The family members and a team of counsellors soon contacted the youth and the team returned to Delhi with the girl on Saturday. The girl gave her statement in front of a magistrate on Sunday and told police that she doesn’t want to live with parents. Cops are now in touch with child protection services to provide her shelter.
