Ajay Maken steps down as Delhi Congress chief

Senior Congress leader Ajay Maken has offered to step down as the Delhi Congress chief. His resignation, however, has not yet been accepted by Congress president Rahul Gandhi, who had personally hand-picked Mr. Maken to lead Delhi Congress replacing Arvinder Singh Lovely. His possible departure as the head of Delhi Congress comes at a time when there is persistent speculation about a possible Congress-AAP tie up for the seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi. Sources close to Mr. Maken told The Hindu that the resignation is based on health reasons. After being wiped out by the Aam Admi Party (AAP) in the last Assembly elections, Mr. Maken has been one of the most vocal critic of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
