Two security guards killed in robbery bid

Two private security guards, deployed at Punjab National Bank’s circle office in Noida Sector 1, were killed on Friday morning after they resisted a robbery attempt, the police said. A gardener who reached the bank but failed to get any response from the guards alerted the branch manager of the bank. However, there was one more CCTV camera, on which their activities were caught, said senior police officers. They said that two assailants attacked the guards with iron rods and sharp objects nearly sixtimes. ‘Two masked men’“Preliminary investigations revealed that the attackers hit the guards on the head with sharp objects, which led to their deaths.

The police said the incident happened between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m. on Friday but was reported later in the morning. A gardener who reached the bank but failed to get any response from the guards alerted the branch manager of the bank. The manager informed the police about the incident. “As the information about the incident was received, a police team rushed to the spot. Upon opening the gate, we found the two guards lying in a pool of blood inside the guard room at the main gate. The bodies were sent for post-mortem after doctors confirmed they were dead,” said Noida Senior Superintendent of Police Ajay Pal Sharma. The police said the deceased have been identified as Mudrika Prasad (50), a resident of Delhi, and Mukesh (35), who hailed from Uttar Pradesh’s Mainpuri. Both of them had been working in the bank for the last few years. Mr. Sharma said the assailants barged into the premises after scaling a wall in the back. They attacked the guards several times when they tried to stop them. ‘Two masked men’ “Preliminary investigations revealed that the attackers hit the guards on the head with sharp objects, which led to their deaths. As of now, we are unsure about how many people were involved in the incident. However, the CCTV camera at the spot has captured two masked men, aged in their 20s, roaming suspiciously inside the bank premises at the time of the incident,” Mr. Sharma said. DVR of CCTV stolen The police said before they fled, the assailants broke the door of the bank manager’s office and took one of the CCTV camera DVRs so that they cannot be traced. However, there was one more CCTV camera, on which their activities were caught, said senior police officers. The police further said the robbers could not take away any cash or valuables from the bank. “The attackers failed to break the strongroom located in the basement of the building. No robbery has been reported, even though the accused attempted the same. Suspects have been identified and an investigation is under way. We are hoping to make a breakthrough soon,” Mr. Sharma also said.
