NEW DELHI: Ahead of Diwali , Delhi Police on Monday midnight caught over 100 men allegedly involved in a gambling racket they ran from a hotel in Rajouri Garden and recovered Rs 23 lakh cash and tokens worth Rs 1.83 crore.There was high drama at the police station later on Tuesday evening, when the families of the nabbed men tried to help them escape, but to no avail.Police said the gamblers were high-profile men who had come in their Audis and Mercedes — all parked at a hotel in Vishal Enclave when the raid was conducted. According to a senior police officer, they were tipped off about the racket by one of the residents nearby, who stated that a group of men had booked a hotel for gambling.Police said the men were all known to each other and had been operating together for some time. They used to book hotels in the city on an hourly-basis and made a set up there. On Monday, they booked a hotel in Ashok Vihar , whereas on Sunday, they booked one in Nizamuddin.DCP (west) Monika Bhardwaj said a team led by ACP KN Subudhi and SHO Sunil Sharma arrested 100 men after a raid on the hotel’s basement in Vishal Enclave and recovered almost Rs 22 lakh. “The previous involvements of all the accused are being verified,” she added.“To keep a check on illegal activities like gambling, sources were deployed in the area to identify and arrest the criminals. On Monday, an information was received by the team about some persons indulging in gambling. A raid was conducted and the men were apprehended. The organiser was arrested too,” she said.
