Delhi youth dies trying to save friend

His friend tried to save him but ended up being killed himself . They were standing on the footboard when the incident occurred.As the train was crossing Shahdara, Ankit lost his balance due to a sudden jerk and slipped. His body was sent for an autopsy, after which it was handed over to his family members.Manoj’s family members told the police that Ankit and Manoj were very close.

NEW DELHI: A sudden jerk sent a youth clinging to the footboard of a local train sprawling. His friend tried to save him but ended up being killed himself . The victims were returning home from work on Saturday night when the incident took place.According to the police, a PCR call was received from one of the passersby, who said that two men lay in a pool of blood near the railways tracks in Shahdara. A police team rushed to the spot and took the victims to a nearby hospital, where their condition was said to be critical.Narrating the sequence of events, a senior police officer said the victims, Ankit (22) and Manoj (23), worked near Mori Gate and like every day, took the local train to get back to their house in Seelampur. They were standing on the footboard when the incident occurred.As the train was crossing Shahdara, Ankit lost his balance due to a sudden jerk and slipped. Instantaneously, Manoj extended his hand in a bid to catch him. However, he couldn’t and both fell off the moving train.An officer said that a part of Ankit’s leg was broken due to the impact of the fall. Manoj, however, was injured more severely. On Sunday morning, while Ankit’s leg was being amputated, Manoj passed away during treatment. His body was sent for an autopsy, after which it was handed over to his family members.Manoj’s family members told the police that Ankit and Manoj were very close. “This was not the first time Manoj did something for his friends. He used to lend them money whenever they needed it. He even got into an argument once to save a friend a few years back,” a family member said.
