NEW DELHI: 23-year-old Sushil Rai stole Rs 70 ,000 from his employer in September 1993 . He had been waiting in a car and when his boss left the vehicle, Rai took the cash packet and ran away . An FIR was registered at Connaught Place police station but cops could not manage to find him.Two years later, in 1995, he was declared a fugitive as the investigating officers could not trace him even though they went to his native village in Madhubani, Bihar. Cops claimed that Rai would cross the border and hide in Nepal as soon as he came to know that a police party had come in search for him.The cat and mouse game continued till this Saturday. The team of cops that had been visiting his village for the past two-years got to know that Rai was now working as a truck driver. They managed to contact him and initially asked him to surrender but he refused. The teams then decided to trick their elusive target. Rather than persuading him to surrender, the cops offered Rai to meet them so that they could close the case formally. They promised him that he wouldn’t be harmed and after much deliberation got him to agree.Delighted that he would not have to go into hiding again, Rai returned to Delhi and went straight to the police station as he was told. However, he was arrested and subsequently produced in the court and sent to judicial custody.
