Delhi Police enters Limca Book of Records for the second time, know why

In 2015, the Delhi Police first entered the Limca Book of Records for solving the biggest cash heist case of the country. The women’s special unit is reported to have written to Limca Book Of Records in February citing their impressive ordeal of programmes in 2017. After authentication by the Limca Book Of Records, the SPUWAC received an email informing them about their achievement,” said Geeta Rani Verma, Deputy Commissioner of Police (SPUWAC). And this time, it is for training over two lakh women and girls under their self-defence programme in 2017.

The self-defence programme first started out in 2002, after an initiative by the Special Police Unit For Women and Children (SPUWAC) under which 9,80,456 women in 5,140 programmes were trained till November this year. The women’s special unit is reported to have written to Limca Book Of Records in February citing their impressive ordeal of programmes in 2017. After authentication by the Limca Book Of Records, the SPUWAC received an email informing them about their achievement,” said Geeta Rani Verma, Deputy Commissioner of Police (SPUWAC). “We had shared details about the number of women trained under this programme with the Limca Book of Records officials and, after scrutinising the number and other aspects, they informed us on Wednesday about our feat,” said the DCP. “Our target for 2019 is to train around 3.5 lakh women and make them strong to deal with any kind of situation. It took time to create awareness about the programme and once the women started showing their interest, the number of participants increased every year,” said an officer who is part of the training programme. The Delhi Police will receive their award in February 2019.
