Gang of road robbers busted in Gurugram 4 held

“One of the gang members posing as cab driver negotiated about the fare or destination with their target while the other three sat in the car as passengers. GURUGRAM: A gang of four road robbers was busted by the Sector 17 crime unit on Sunday.The accused confessed to have robbed over 20 people in the last few months after offering them lift.According to the police, the accused chose targets — often office-goers — who are seen looking for transportation. Sources said that the accused will soon be produced in court and taken on police remand as that could lead to the solving of several cab robbery cases. After committing each robbery the accused fled to Mewat and didn’t use mobile phones to keep their location untraceable. The Sector 17 crime unit got its first major lead when one of the accused made a call from a victim’s phone in front of him.Police managed to get the number and by tracking that identified and nabbed one of the gang members on Sunday night.

GURUGRAM: A gang of four road robbers was busted by the Sector 17 crime unit on Sunday.The accused confessed to have robbed over 20 people in the last few months after offering them lift.According to the police, the accused chose targets — often office-goers — who are seen looking for transportation. “One of the gang members posing as cab driver negotiated about the fare or destination with their target while the other three sat in the car as passengers. Once the target sat in the car, the accused thrashed and robbed the victim after holding him hostage at gunpoint,” an officer said.The crime units had been trailing this gang since a month after police commissioner K K Rao directed them to nab the accused as soon as possible. The Sector 17 crime unit got its first major lead when one of the accused made a call from a victim’s phone in front of him.Police managed to get the number and by tracking that identified and nabbed one of the gang members on Sunday night. Following his interrogation, all other three members were arrested.ACP (crime) Shamsher Singh Dahiya could not be contacted after repeated attempts but a senior officer confirmed that the gang has been busted.An investigator of the crime unit said that one of the accused was earlier a cab driver with an app-based taxi service. After committing each robbery the accused fled to Mewat and didn’t use mobile phones to keep their location untraceable. Sources said that the accused will soon be produced in court and taken on police remand as that could lead to the solving of several cab robbery cases.
