All our high order volume restaurant partners are already compliant, therefore, we are certain this move will not have an impact on our order volumes,” said Mohit Gupta, CEO of Zomato’s food delivery business. He added they had been aggressively educating restaurant partners to obtain a licence as well as meet necessary hygiene standards. As a result, the number of compliant restaurants on the platform has increased by over 30,000 in the past 6 months.Gupta said, “We also introduced hygiene ratings, a couple of years ago, to educate users about the hygiene standards within restaurants. GURUGRAM: Following new guidelines from the Food Safety and Security Authority of India, Zomato said on Friday it had delisted more than 5,000 restaurants that it had found to be non-compliant with hygiene standards from its app.The Gurgaon-based food tech company said the company, along with FSSAI , had been conducting an audit of all restaurants listed on its platform in all cities. The company delisted hundreds of restaurants last year for the same reasons.“We have been re-evaluating all the 80,000+ restaurants listed on Zomato, helping them be compliant, and delisting those that have failed to follow regulations in spite of continuous efforts. The idea was to introduce the concept of standardized kitchen hygiene to the restaurant industry in India and reward restaurant operators who care about the sanitation of their premises.”Following complaints about sub-standard food products being delivered home by food tech companies, FSSAI had issued guidelines for online grocery and food delivery companies last year. The new guidelines say food products offered by these companies can be sampled for tests at any stage of the supply chain.Further, the companies are supposed to have indicative images on their websites of the food being sold.
