NEW DELHI: The AAP MLA from Chandni Chowk assembly constituency, Alka Lamba , on Friday said she was ready to join Congress if the party takes her back. “I will definitely not say no and will consider an offer from Congress because I have not been given a significant role in AAP to defeat BJP in Delhi,” Lamba told TOI.Ever since Lamba had a confrontation with the AAP leadership in December last year, after an AAP MLA moved a controversial resolution in Delhi Assembly to demand Rajiv Gandhi be stripped of Bharat Ratna, rumours of her getting close to Congress have been doing the rounds.“The AAP leadership appeared strong earlier but now appears to be very weak. They were insisting on an alliance with Congress, but when that party refused, they alleged it had a secret pact with BJP. Then they declared they will win all seven seats alone. Suddenly, they again started requesting Congress for an alliance in Haryana. All this has made them appear weak and confused,” she said.Lamba had worked for over 20 years for Congress before joining AAP. She has been reportedly lobbying with the party for contesting the Lok Sabha polls from Chandni Chowk. An NSUI member in the early 1990s, Lamba has also served in All India Mahila Congress.“I am an MLA but I cannot see a big role for me in AAP to defeat BJP. I currently don’t have any proposal from Congress, but it will be a matter of honour for me to receive such an offer,” Lamba told TOI.The civic elections showed that Congress is getting back its votes, said Lamba. “It is a high time to take a call. After the December controversy, there has been no communication between me and senior leaders of AAP. I have to decide my role,” she said and added that “AAP does not think I am important.”“The confidence of party workers in Chandni Chowk is very low because they are confused on the alliance issue. The voters too are confused because they are unable to understand the desperation in AAP for an alliance,” she said.“If Alka Lamba wants to join any party, she should resign from AAP,” said AAP spokesperson Saurabh Bharadwaj. “But that would mean losing her MLA seat which requires a lot of courage and conviction. She is a career politician and worked in Congress for 20 years. She left Congress, cursed them and joined AAP. Like 67 other MLAs, she also won on the name of Arvind Kejriwal . Wherever she goes, she would need to follow party discipline.”
