PM Modi and Congress pays homage to Jawaharlal Nehru

A number of politicians and Congress party workers also paid their homage to Jawaharlal Nehru at Shantivan in New Delhi on his death anniversary.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday paid tribute to first Prime Minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru on his 55th death anniversary. Taking to Twitter, PM Narendra Modi said, "Tributes to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Ji on his death anniversary. We remember his contributions to our nation."

 

 

A number of politicians and Congress party workers also paid their homage to Jawaharlal Nehru at Shantivan in New Delhi on his death anniversary.

 

Among those present at Shantivan in New Delhi included former President Pranab Mukherjee, former Vice President Hamid Ansari, Congress chief Rahul Gandhi, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

 

 

Among others who paid their obeisance to the late leader was former Uttar Pradesh Governor and veteran Congress leader Motilal Vora. An all-religion prayer meeting was organised at the memorial premises.

Jawaharlal Nehru was the first Prime Minister of India. Jawaharlal Nehru emerged as an eminent leader of the Indian independence movement under the tutelage of Mahatma Gandhi.

He held the post from its establishment as an independent nation in 1947 until his death on May 27, 1964. Jawaharlal Nehru is credited to have shaped the formative years of the country after years of colonial rule.

A staunch advocate of socialism, secularism, and democracy Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, he was an eminent leader of India`s freedom movement against the British rule.
