Who is Subrahmanyam Jaishankar who replaced Sushma Swaraj as Foreign Minister

  Jaishankar, was selected by PM Modi in January 2015 to serve as the Foreign Secretary. Among other positions, Jaishankar has been India`s High Commissioner to Singapore and Ambassador to the Czech Republic.

 After the swearing-in ceremony of Modi and his Council of Ministers on Thursday, there was much suspense on who will get which portfolio. As the portfolios were out on Friday the major change that got the focus was on S Jaishankar coming in  as External Affairs Minister.

But who is Subrahmanyam Jaishankar??

Subrahmanyam Jaishankar graduated fronm St Stephen`s College, MA in Political Science and an MPhil and Ph.D. in International Relations from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). He had initially served as the press secretary to former President Shankar Dayal Sharma. Jaishankar is married to Kyoko Jaishankar and has two sons and a daughter.

A 1977-batch IFS officer, Jaishankar played a key role in resolving the crisis following the incursion in Ladakh`s Depsang and the Doklam stand-off, handling the tough negotiations with Beijing.

  Jaishankar, was selected by PM Modi in January 2015 to serve as the Foreign Secretary. Among other positions, Jaishankar has been India`s High Commissioner to Singapore and Ambassador to the Czech Republic.

In 2019, Jaishankar was conferred with the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award of the country.
