Mobile phone gang busted

Seven persons of the gang were involved in sending stolen smartphones to Nepal. The special cell has recovered 311 mobile phones worth more than Rs 60 lakh. Rajesh Deo, DCP, said the police received a tip-off that the gang was sending stolen mobile phones to Nepal. The snatchers, through a middleman, used to hand over the stolen mobile phones to the kingpin of the gang for sending it to Nepal, he said. The accused, who said he repaired mobile phones, was nabbed.

Seven persons of the gang were involved in sending stolen smartphones to Nepal. The special cell has recovered 311 mobile phones worth more than Rs 60 lakh. Rajesh Deo, DCP, said the police received a tip-off that the gang was sending stolen mobile phones to Nepal. The snatchers, through a middleman, used to hand over the stolen mobile phones to the kingpin of the gang for sending it to Nepal, he said. The receiver in Nepal used to have a salaried worker in Delhi to track the movements of these mobile phones and would also facilitate their payment for them through illegal channels, said the DCP. Recently, a woman complained to the police that a motorbike-borne youth had snatched her mobile phone at Connaught Place. The accused, who said he repaired mobile phones, was nabbed. In the last couple of years, the demand for used high-end mobile phones has increased in Nepal and other neighbouring countries. The DCP said Naresh Kumar (30) was arrested with 211 mobile phones. More than 100 smartphones were recovered from Mukesh Kumar, Naresh Kumar, Rajan, Ram Singh, a Nepal resident, Gopal Pathak, Rohit, have been arrested.
