Yamuna taxi project to boost tourism

New Delhi, June 26The government has decided to start Yamuna Water Taxi project to boost tourism in the national capital. The IWAI had proposed to develop the Yamuna in Delhi for the purpose of tourism in a sustainable way. Speaking at the project site, Mandaviya said the Yamuna Water Taxi project would be a new means of urban transportation. The project, covering 16 km will comprise five locations on the banks of the Yamuna, including Fatehpur Jat, Tronica City, Jagatpur, Sonia Vihar and Wazirabad. The project will be developed in two phases - Phase I: Sonia Vihar to Tronica City and Phase II: Wazirabad to Sonia Vihar and Tronica City to Fatehpur Jat.

Mansukh Mandaviya, Minister of State for Shipping, today inspected the Sonia Vihar site of the proposed the project of Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI). The IWAI had proposed to develop the Yamuna in Delhi for the purpose of tourism in a sustainable way. Speaking at the project site, Mandaviya said the Yamuna Water Taxi project would be a new means of urban transportation. It would not only give a boost to tourism, but also help reduce traffic congestion in the city. The project has been conceived as an integrated development project combining functions like terminal development and vessels operation. The project, covering 16 km will comprise five locations on the banks of the Yamuna, including Fatehpur Jat, Tronica City, Jagatpur, Sonia Vihar and Wazirabad. The project will be developed in two phases - Phase I: Sonia Vihar to Tronica City and Phase II: Wazirabad to Sonia Vihar and Tronica City to Fatehpur Jat. It has been proposed that vessels will be operated on multi-fuel sources, making it more environment friendly. —TNS
