Signal-free stretch covering 2.85 km to ease connectivity to airport New Delhi, July 16 Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday inaugurated the 2.85 km signal-free Rao Tula Ram flyover in south Delhi, easing the drive to the domestic and international airport terminals from south and east Delhi and Noida. Built at a cost of Rs 205 crore the flyover between Munirka and Subroto Park on the Outer Ring Road will help decongest traffic on the Ring Road and reduce the commuting time for Indira Gandhi International Airport and Noida. The construction of the flyover started in November 2014 and completed in November 2016. “We don’t know how to do politics. This is something we failed to learn. We only believe in doing work and we have done a lot in the city,” said Kejriwal during the inauguration of the flyover. The Chief Minster said his government had built 23 flyovers in the past four and a half years and was focusing on the infrastructure of the Capital. He said, “Recently, we completed the Signature Bridge for northeast Delhi. After the inauguration, a leader from the opposition sought to take credit of the project. They have not been in power in Delhi for the past 20 years, yet they make such false claims. We don’t indulge in such politics. The government has worked a lot in the health and education sectors. We don’t advertise our work and people will spread the word for us.” Kejriwal said no government in the past 70 years had worked for the education of the poor. “We have transformed government hospitals. Mohalla clinics and polyclinics are being opened. None of the governments cared for the health of the poor. They were involved only in politics and never worked for the people. Our politics is politics for people. We want children of poor to become doctors, engineers, advocates, etc. We want to make their future bright,” said Kejriwal. The Chief Minister said his government was only concerned about the overall development of the Capital and was ready to face criticism for its pro-people agenda. PWD Minister Satyendra Jain said, “The three-lane elevated corridor is first of its kind. We don't advertise our work and people will spread the word for us. — Arvind Kejriwal, CM Delay disappoints commuters After the long-delayed Rao Tula Ram (RTR) flyover was inaugurated by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, it was not opened for commuters for hours, disappointing them. An official said during afternoon that it would be opened to the public by 5 pm but by then only the mats and the base of the stage laid for the event had been cleared. The flyover remained closed for commuters for seven to eight hours after the inauguration. — IANS
