Punjab minister Navjot Singh Sidhu had resigned from the state Cabinet few days back.

Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amrinder Singh has accepted Navjot Singh Sidhu`s resignation. The same has now been sent to the Governor of Punjab Vijayender Pal Singh Badnore for approval. Punjab minister Navjot Singh Sidhu had resigned from the state Cabinet few days back.

On Tuesday, Amarinder Singh had said he will decide on Navjot Singh Sidhu`s resignation after going through the contents of his letter. He had said he will do so after attending some meetings lined up in Delhi and returning back to Chandigarh.

Disclosing this here on Saturday, an official spokesperson said Captain Amarinder, who had been indisposed for the last two days, since arrival from Delhi, saw the resignation letter this morning. The letter, however, was just a single sentence tendering Sidhu`s resignation, with no explanation or elaboration, said the spokesperson.

Last month, Navjot Singh Sidhu even met Congress president Rahul Gandhi and his sister Priyanka Gandhi in New Delhi and "apprised him of the situation" and also handed over a letter to him.

Submitting his resignation letter to the former Congress President Rahul Gandhi, Sidhu posted a copy of the same on Twitter. The letter is dated June 10, 2019.

Singh had earlier disapproved of Sidhu hugging the Pakistan Army chief during his visit to the neighbouring country.

On June 6, in a portfolio reshuffle exercise, Singh divested Sidhu of the key portfolios of local government, tourism and cultural affairs and allotted him power and new and renewable energy sources ministry. Since then he had not assumed the new charge.

The tension between Singh and his cabinet colleague had come out in the open last month when the CM blamed Sidhu for the "inept handling" of the Local Government Department, claiming that it resulted in "poor performance" of the Congress in urban areas in the Lok Sabha polls.

Sidhu was also snubbed when he was left out of the consultative groups which were formed by the chief minister on June 8.
