1 held for killing man toddler in hit run case

NEW DELHI: A man and his five-year-old son were killed on Saturday allegedly in a hit and run case after a tempo hit them while they were crossing a road in northeast Delhi's Nand Nagri. According to police, the deceased were identified as Rajpal (45), a resident of Hathgai near Shahjahanpur in Uttar Pradesh and his five year old toddler son named Shiva. Rajpal and his son were crossing a road near the DTC depot, when a speeding tempo hit them and fled the spot. A case was registered and a witness shared the registration number of the offending vehicle, he said. A 35-year-old radio jockey was arrested on July 6 in connection with an alleged hit-and-run case in which a man had died in the intervening night of June 29 and 30.

According to the police, the incident was reported at around 5.20 am early morning. Rajpal and his son were crossing a road near the DTC depot, when a speeding tempo hit them and fled the spot. Rajpals wife and their another daughter were walking behind at a distance when the incident occurred, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northeast), Atul Kumar Thakur said. Originally from Shahjahanpur, Rajpal worked as a labourer. He along with his wife and children were on their way to meet their elder daughter, who is married and lives in Nand Nagri area, the officer said. The father-son duo were rushed to Guru Tej Bahadur (GTB) hospital where they were declared brought dead. A case was registered and a witness shared the registration number of the offending vehicle, he said. Soon, a police team was sent in search f the offending vehicle. By evening the Delhi Police succeeded in arresting the driver. The tempo driver, Sambhu Kumar (38), who is a Karol Bagh resident, was arrested and his vehicle has been seized, police a senior police officer. Earlier on July 18, a 24-year-old CRPF constable was killed and two others were left injured after a college student jumped a red light and rammed his Mercedes into their car in south Delhis Greater Kailash area. The accused, identified as Sandhiya Garg, 19, was arrested. The incident occurred on Thursday night at Archana crossing on BRT. A 35-year-old radio jockey was arrested on July 6 in connection with an alleged hit-and-run case in which a man had died in the intervening night of June 29 and 30. The accused, Ankit Gulati, a resident of East Patel Nagar, was arrested from his residence.
