NEW DELHI: Target the old, snatch the gold was the modus operandi of the two chain snatchers who used to specifically target the elderly persons in Delhi and Haryana and snatched their gold chains. With their arrest, 60 cases of chain snatchings registered in different police stations of West, North-West, Rohini & Outer Districts of Delhi & Gurugram, Haryana have been worked out. The accused have been identified as Ajay and Monu, both residents of Delhi. "Due to their continuous involvement in snatching gold chains, both the accused persons were booked under MCOCA and they remained in jail for several years. However, they went for snatching spree soon after their release from jail. 01 sophisticated pistol loaded with 03 live cartridges, 01 stolen bike and 06 snatched chains have been recovered from their possession," said Monika Bhardwaj, DCP West Delhi. Both the accused persons were subjected to custodial interrogation and they told police that they are actively involved in robberies and snatching of gold chains. They especially used to target senior citizens out for walk during morning hours. After sustained interrogation, it revealed that accused Ajay alias Gainda is involved in criminal activities way back since 2004. His name is listed as a Bad Character at Mangol Puri Police Station in Delhi. Due to continuous involvements in Gold Chain Snatchings in an organised manner involving his family members also, he along with some family members and associates had been booked under MCOCA, but after coming out on bail he again indulged in snatchings. Accused Monu is also actively involved in criminal activities since 1997 and is listed as Bad Character in Police Station Aman Vihar, Delhi. He along with his associates Vikram and others was booked under MCOCA in the year 2015.
