Auto driver held for robbing passengers

Ghaziabad: Ghaziabad police have arrested an auto driver from Sahibabad area for allegedly robbing passengers after keeping them hostage during the journey. Cops said that 3-4 accomplices of the driver used to board the auto as passengers and rob the passenger with valuables after stopping the auto at a secluded spot during the journey. According to police, the arrested accused has been identified as Naushad, a native of Ashok Vihar area in Loni. "We are interrogating the arrested to know about the whereabouts of other accused persons who were involved in the robberies. Meanwhile the Police have also given directions to all the auto drivers plying in the city to display the name and phone numbers of the owner of auto by August 27.

Police have recovered a .315mm illegal country made pistol, silver jewelleries and the auto-rickshaw used in crime from the possession of accused. Detailing over the Modus Operandi of gang, Shlok Kumar, Superintendent of Police (city), Ghaziabad said that the gang usually target commuters who had come to Ghaziabad from other districts and are not much aware of the city routes. "Upon interrogating the accused, he told police that while committing robbery one of their gang members drive the auto-rickshaw and picks up a commuter from posh crossings and bus stands in the city. While driving to the destination, they used to follow a route where three to four of their other gang members were kept waiting. These persons also board the auto posing as passengers and as they reach a secluded spot, they rob the passenger with his valuables at gun or knife point and fled away after dumping him," said Kumar. The officer further said that gang was active in Ghaziabad since past few months and have committed robberies in Mohan Nagar, New Bus stand, Lal Kuan and Bhopura areas of Ghaziabad. "We are interrogating the arrested to know about the whereabouts of other accused persons who were involved in the robberies. We are expecting to make more arrests soon," added Kumar. Meanwhile the Police have also given directions to all the auto drivers plying in the city to display the name and phone numbers of the owner of auto by August 27.
