New Delhi: Om Prakash slogs his days working at his small auto repair shop and garage in Outer Delhi. Despite a turbulent past, he keeps his head down and continues to work when one fine day on October 6, two Delhi Police constables from Nangloi police station arrive at his shop. They randomly start searching his premises, claiming that he had stolen an e-rickshaw. These were the circumstances based on which a city court granted Om Prakash anticipatory bail in the case, noting clearly that police picked him up even though they could not find the stolen e-rickshaw at his premises after continued searches. Advocate Ravi Drall, appearing on behalf of Om submitted in court that the CCTV footage from the police station on the date has been asked to be preserved.

When Om tells the police that his shop does not even come under the jurisdiction of Nangloi station, one Ct Jitender takes out his police-issued pistol, points it at him and says if he wants to be explained the full extent of the law. The two cops then took him to the station, where they kept him for almost 12 hours and demanded Rs 50,000 if he wanted them to stop harassing him. Somehow, the garage owner pays them Rs 5,000, leaves his mobile phone at the station and says he will get the rest of the money to them. The court said that Om should be released on a bail bond of Rs 10,000 in the event that he is arrested in the case and also recorded the prosecutions argument that he was a suspect in their case and had a record of five other criminal cases.
