New Delhi: Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) Vice-Chancellor M Jagadesh Kumar on Thursday said the exams would be happening as per schedule even as students boycotted it in protest over the hostel fee hike. Kumar said the varsity administration was open for dialogue and interests of bona-fide students was a top priority. However, many schools of the university boycotted the exams on Thursday. Schools such as School of Social Science (SSS), School of Life Sciences (SLS), School of International Studies (SIS), School of Physical Sciences (SPS), School of Arts and Aesthetics (SAA), School of Computational And Integrative Sciences (SCIS), School of Environmental Sciences (SES), Nano Science and School for the Study of Law and Governance (CSLG) boycotted the exam. Only the School of Sanskrit held regular examination. "All students have sat down for the examination," said Hari Kumar Mishra, Sanskrit professor at JNU. Members of ABVP claimed that Left parties tried to disrupt the examination, after which police was called. Meanwhile, the varsity had a meeting with the office-bearers of International Students Association of JNU who had shared the problems being faced by them as their visa validity is going to expire. They were assured that their situation would be looked into. "In order to facilitate the evaluation of their courses, its only appropriate that an alternative evaluation process needs to be adopted," the administration had said on Wednesday. The students, on the other hand, have lockdown the schools and are sitting outside in protest. The Students Union has made it clear that they are not going to budge unless and until their demands are met. The strike has entered its 46th day.
