New Delhi: The Delhi Police Commissioner directed DCPs of districts and units to keep a tab on activities of criminals who were earlier involved in crime against women cases. Police sources told Millennium Post that in a recent meeting held on December 5, top brass of Delhi Police discussed about womens safety and security in the city. Sources said that the top cop directed senior officers for the proper ground-level implementation of the measures taken by city police for womens safety. "Bad elements who have earlier been involved in women related crimes should be thoroughly verified and watch over their activities should be maintained," the police chief told senior officers. The top cop further told meeting attendees that there should be high police visibility on dark patches and stretches particularly those used by women between 8 pm to 2 am. Night patrolling staff should have adequate weapons and necessary equipment. "Checking should be planned in such a way that it has some element of surprise for those people who consume liquor in public places," police chief further said. Under the Shistachar scheme, district DCPs were told to form dedicated teams including lady police officers in plain clothes to nab offenders, eve-teasers outside schools, colleges and in the areas frequently visited by women, girls and take appropriate legal action. Meanwhile, Amulya Patnaik also discussed regarding the action taken by districts, units against robbers, snatchers and active criminals. He told DCPs that division and beat staff should be tasked to identify the criminal elements in their areas who have motorcycles. "District DCPs should task the anti-snatching teams of the districts to keep watch on the activities of known robbers and snatchers as well as bad elements who are out on bail and released after the trial and get feedback from them about their work output. Identified proposals of MCOCA should be taken to their logical conclusion at the earliest," the police chief told meeting attendees.
