LG Saxena inspects Kamla Nehru Ridge

  • | Friday | 30th May, 2025

Delhi LG VK Saxena undertook a comprehensive inspection of the Kamla Nehru Ridge also known as Northern Ridge, directing officials of the DDA and Public Works Department (PWD) to implement the area revamp and beautification and biodiversity conservation program at the earliest. He also instructed officials to put in place the monsoon preparedness plan on a war footing. He later visited the Sadbhavna Park to review its ongoing redevelopment. The inspection of Kamla Nehru Ridge primarily focused on revamp and restoration of these open green lungs that cater to the needs of thousands of residents of densely populated areas around it, that include Kamla Nagar, MalkaGanj, Delhi University, Shakti Nagar, Civil Lines and Mall Road. The LG also reviewed the persistent issue of waterlogging on Delhi roads, a recurring problem during the monsoon season. He reviewed existing arrangements and issued stringent instructions for immediate and accelerated action. A key directive from LG Saxena was the implementation of a robust rainwater harvesting system. He specifically called for the construction of direct pipelines from roadside footpaths to the Kamla Nehru Ridge forest, aiming to channel excess rainwater into the Ridge ecosystem for conservation and groundwater replenishment. He directed that 3-foot diametre pipelines be laid from the footpaths directly into the Kamla Nehru Ridge forest. These pipes should extend about 4 feet inside the Ridges boundary wall to effectively channel surface water. Beyond monsoon preparedness, LG Saxena emphasised upon the importance of enhancing both the aesthetic appeal and ecological health of the Kamla Nehru Ridge. He directed officials to undertake extensive beautification efforts, including the removal of excess foliage, hanging wires, redundant cables, dead wood, and other encumbrances along the stretch of the Ridges boundary wall. These efforts are to be carried out alongside measures to conserve and protect its rich biodiversity. During his visit, the LG also took the opportunity to interact with local residents including Resident Welfare Association (RWA) members, listening attentively to their concerns and assuring them of prompt action. Following his visit to Kamla Nehru Ridge, LG Saxena proceeded to Sadbhavna Park located opposite Raj Ghat, which is currently under development. He conducted a thorough inspection of the ongoing work, assessing the progress of its transformation into a significant public green space. The LG stressed that regular monitoring would be done to ensure the timely and effective execution of all directed works at both the Kamla Nehru Ridge and Sadbhavna Park.
