Police detaines 30 illegal Bangladeshi

  • | Saturday | 31st May, 2025

The Delhi Police have detained 30 Bangladeshi nationals, on Friday, found to be residing unlawfully in the Bharat Nagar area of the capital. The operation, conducted by a special surveillance team throughout May, culminated in surprise raids following a tip-off about suspicious activities involving illegal migrants in the locality. All 30 individuals have now been placed in detention and restriction centres in Delhi. Authorities are currently processing legal action against them under provisions of the Foreigners Act, police said. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest) Bhisham Singh confirmed that the detainees, including 12 women, 15 men, and three children, were all Bangladeshi citizens who had illegally entered India through porous border areas. They were helped by agents who facilitated their illegal entry into the country without valid documentation, said DCP Singh. During interrogation, the individuals admitted to sneaking into India and settling in Delhi, where many had lived for several years. To avoid detection, they took up odd jobs and engaged in begging, particularly at traffic intersections, as a means of blending into the local population. A significant recovery made during the operation included five smartphones with the banned IMO application installed. Police believe the app was being used by the accused to maintain contact with their families and associates back in Bangladesh. The application, which is reportedly restricted in India due to its potential for covert cross-border communication, raised further suspicions about the groups activities. In addition to the smartphones, ten Bangladeshi National ID cards were recovered from the possession of the detainees, providing further proof of their foreign origin. Several of the detained individuals are part of family units, with some accompanied by minor children. The investigation is ongoing, and we are working to identify the network of agents who facilitated their entry and stay in India, DCP Singh added.
